HDC-DX1
Panasonic HDC-DX1 High Definition DVD Palmcorder
High Definition Recording
Capture beautiful high definition images with the HDCDX1 camcorder. It's loaded with the latest technology to produce truly stunning video and still images. The Leica Dicomar lens featured on the HDCDX1 was developed specifically for HD digital camcorders. This lens system is made using a multi-coating process that prevents light reflection and glare, which can make colors bleed and images appear washed out. It also prevents rings of light, or "ghosts". The HDCDX1 uses a 3CCD camera system, which is the same technology most professional broadcasting cameras use. In a 1 CCD system, all the incoming light is processed by the same CCD. The more advanced 3CCD system uses three distinct CCDs for processing, so there is absolutely no light loss. You can see the results in beautifully rendered images with vivid color, fine detail, and rich gradation. An HD Advanced Pure Color Engine is a special image processing circuit for the 3CCD HD camcorder. Able to process large amounts of data with high speed and precision, this engine achieves truly superb color reproduction for high-quality pictures.
DVD Recording
The HDCDX1 can record and play DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R DL (Dual Layer), DVD-R discs and SD/SDHC Memory Card. With the DVD-RAM disc, you can record again and again on the same disc, up to tens of thousands of times. You can record repeatedly on DVD-RW discs as well, and they are well-suited to editing. While you can record only once on DVD-R DL/DVD-R discs, they can be played back on almost any kind of DVD player or recorder. With the HDCDX1's wide compatibility, you can record on whichever kind of disc works best in your player or recorder. Select from three recording modes to match your needs: HF (13Mbps/CBR), HN (9Mbps/VBR), and HE (6Mbps/VBR).
Making Great Things Even Better
Panasonic's O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) minimizes the hand-shake that can be such a problem with handheld shots. Because Panasonic's system is optical, there is no image quality degradation. When you're shooting a still picture, the MEGA O.I.S. system automatically activates, doubling the corrective power. With O.I.S. and MEGA O.I.S., the HDCDX1 is equipped for clear, beautiful shooting of both motion and still pictures. With the camcorder's 12x optical zoom, distant subjects can be enlarged so they appear to be right up close. This allows dynamic shots of both motion and still pictures. Using the zoom at full magnification, you can use the Tele-Macro function to shoot macro close-ups while maintaining a distance of about 2 feet from your subject. This makes it much easier to capture extreme close-ups without your body or camera casting a shadow on the subject and while keeping the background in soft focus.
Shoot Wide, View Wide
The HDCDX1 offers the high quality wide images that make for beautiful, dramatic viewing on a wide-screen TV. The image is processed on a 16:9 area of the CCD. Because the image decoded has the same proportions as your wide-screen TV, there is virtually no picture quality degradation. You get beautiful images and all the excitement and dynamism on either a wide 16:9 screen TV or a conventional 4:3 TV. The HDCDX1 also features a high-density, 250,000 pixel, wide 3.0-inch LCD, making it easier to frame shots when you're shooting in 16:9 mode. You can enjoy shooting wide, and viewing wide. The LCD screen also makes for easy navigation. It displays a list of recorded scenes fro quick and easy searching. An index tab lets you switch between motion and still image thumbnails for fast retrieval of specific scenes. You can also do some polished editing using only the camera.
Low-Light Magic
Designed for shooting in total darkness, the 0 Lux MagicPix with Light Panel function shoots four frames per second using the LCD monitor as a light source. Pictures are clear and sharp thanks to the hand-shake compensation provided by the O.I.S. Light from the LCD is gentle and easy on the eyes, so you can snap shots of sleeping children or pets without waking them up. The HDCDX1 also features High 6 Lux Sensitivity mode for sharp, clear images even in dim lighting. The pixels are more than twice the ordinary size, so you can shoot in light as low as 6 lux. You get natural-looking shots even in dim rooms or at dusk.
One-Touch Navigation and Joystick Control
A joystick controller makes the HDCDX1 very easy to use, letting you control all basic operations with one hand. As you shoot, just watch the image in the monitor and follow the instruction guide. You can handle a number of operations quickly and easily, without even taking your eye off the subject. A direct mode dial lets you easily select the icon that corresponds to the mode you want to use. Most operations on the HDCDX1 can be performed with a single finger.
5.1-Channel Surround Sound
The HDCDX1 has five electret condenser microphones which separately record sounds from the front, sides and back. When played on a Dolby Digital 5.1-channel home cinema system, the resulting sound is incredibly lifelike. Also, when zooming in on a subject, the sound also focuses on the area right around the subject.
Even More Great Features
There are even more great features that make the HDCDX1 an exciting camcorder to own. Focus Assist enlarges the center of the image, making it easier for you to get a clear, sharp shot when focusing manually. With wide LCD monitors, it's hard to keep images perfectly level. The HDCDX1 solves this by displaying horizontal and vertical Composition Guide Lines that make it easy to keep the subject straight and level. Instant On/Off reduces the time required for operating the camera. When you open the LCD, the power turns on. Shut it and the power turns off. Pull out the viewfinder and the power turns on. Put it back and the power turns off. When the power is turned on, the lens cover automatically opens. When the power goes off, the lens cover closes. You don't have to keep removing and replacing the lens cap -- or worry about losing it. Finally, if you have an HDTV that is HDMI compatible, a single HDMI cable is all you need to connect the HDCDX1. High-definition viewing from your camcorder couldn't be easier.
